As I write Mr Raj Thackeray has already banned Bhachchan’s movies in Maharashtra (and we thought only censor board has right to do so), their posters are taken off and people of Maharashtra are advised not to buy products endorsed by this family. This happened after Mrs Jaya Bhachchan in a public function took a dig at him in Hindi. Her expression in Hindi led to this hue & cry.
Now Mr Raj Thackeray is reprimanded by state administration for not provoking his followers further by giving such a speech. Mr Thackeray expressed his anger on Mrs Jaya’s statements.
Another of Thackeray has just expressed their displeasure on Shahrukh Khan’s expressions stating himself as “Delhiwalla”.
So what exactly is freedom to express? Yes it differs from country to country but then the bottom line needs to be same. The public figures should have a very cautious approach while making statements, as their influence towards the society is much larger then the common man. Imagine my son wanting to keep a pet with the same name as his friend or kids slapping a player from their own team.
I must say that the statement by Mrs Jaya Bhachchan was very unlike her. Bhachchan’s are one of the most dignified family around and such a statement was certainly uncalled for. Now she has given our dear politicians enough work for week to make merry on her statement.
Public figures get so much love and attention from common public. It is due to this affection and respect that they are treated as larger then life or dummy god. What is expected from them in return is a moral responsibility towards the society. This is a burden they need to carry and carry off in style.
We cannot make rules for expressions but what we least can do is not to accept every thing and any thing coming from from these respected people.
Maybe this would make the world a better place to express…….
