Reunion

It all started with a SMS that I received on 8th while on the way to Jodhpur. It stated that MPS86 batch reunion at Jaipur club is scheduled on 10th Jan. As my plan was to work till late on 10th at Jodhpur hence I politely informed them of my not attending the event.

When I started getting calls on 10th morning from friends and my batchmates does the realization struck that it’s been almost 23 years that we have not gathered together. Then the chain started getting bigger with every body calling every one from the same batch to reach the destination.

It was then that I decided that I need to attend this event. Hence I left early to reach Jaipur on time. When I was entering the club I was a bit nervous, as it was a very strange feeling to meet every one after so many years. Once inside there were warm hugs all around and only one sentence was repeated again and again “Pehchaan Kaun”. Every body was very formal to begin with. It was obvious that things have changed personally and physically. The hairs have greyed or were lost altogether. Almost every body has gained weight. The moustaches have appeared and wrinkles have started to show as well.

Past one drink and every thing was back to the good old times. The initial hitch was gone and people were as affectionate and friendly as 23 years back. The group still resembled as if they were standing in the morning assembly and talking to each not bothered about what the Monitors of the classes were instructing. The warmth was back and so were the fond memories of those school days. The pretty female teachers were discussed at length. Those pranks that were committed 23 years back were discussed again proudly.

At the end it was one of the most important and enjoyable get together that I have attended. Promises were made to meet up again very soon and all went back to their daily busy routines carrying with them a sense of belonging.
